Reduces their risk of reproductive cancers, eliminates unwanted litters, and helps prevent other medical issues such as urinary tract infections.
Millions of pets are euthanized every year because they don’t have homes. Millions more remain in shelters, waiting to be adopted. Spaying (for females) and neutering (for males) are procedures that can significantly reduce the number of homeless pets.
The procedure also has many health benefits for ur cat or dog. Spaying at a young age reduces the occurrence of mammary cancer and uterine infections (also known as pyometra).
It eliminates heat cycles that can be messy and/or painful for ur pet, and it prevents testicular cancer in males. Neutering can also help prevent or alter unwanted behaviors such as aggression, urine marking, and roaming (where pets wander off in search of a mate).
Before ur pet is spayed or neutered, we will see ur pet for a pre-operative appointment to discuss the procedure, conduct a physical, and perform some blood work to ensure ur pet is healthy for surgery.
We’ll take care of ur pet from the moment you drop them off in the morning until they’ve recovered from anesthesia and are ready to go home. We’ll send you regular updates and photos or videos of ur pet throughout the day, so you can rest easy knowing that they’re in good hands.
Although most cats and dogs recover from anesthesia relatively quickly, some experience post-anesthesia anxiety or fussiness. Young pets may want to play again the same day, but should be kept calm for 10-14 days to help them recover. This means restricting play and exercise; dogs should only take short walks strictly to relieve themselves.
To prevent injuries, it’s best to keep ur pet in a quiet area where they cannot run or jump. Dogs can be crated, and you should make sure that ur pet’s bedding is clean and dry to prevent infection. Cats should have a clean litter tray nearby and toys that encourage healing such as chew toys and food puzzle toys.
We’ll give ur pet pain medication to keep them comfortable and an E-collar to prevent them from licking, chewing, or irritating the incision site. We also have soft collars available for purchase to maximize comfort.
Our team will schedule a complimentary follow-up appointment 10-14 days after ur pet’s spay/neuter so we can assess ur pet’s healing and remove sutures if needed
We provide comprehensive care for your pets with a special focus on emergency services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
